The Most Important Thing You Will Ever Say Out Loud.
There comes a point in every parent’s life when information isn’t enough. When something deeper gets stirred. When you stop nodding along and start feeling that tug in your chest that says — Hold on. This matters.
They are my kids. Not the government’s kids. Not the school district’s kids. Not the algorithm’s kids. They are MY kids.
That statement — once you really feel it — changes everything. It is not just a declaration of love. It is a declaration of responsibility. Of ownership. Of leadership. And it is the statement that the entire ReadiKids system is built on.

Chapter 14 of Raising Children Capable of Leaving Home is a call to action for parents to step fully into their role. The claim is both simple and radical: nobody loves your children like you do. Nobody knows them like you. And nobody has the right to decide their path but you.

Captain of the Ship.
Chapter 15 introduces the operating philosophy of the ReadiKids system: the Captain of the Ship framework. Parents are not passengers in their child’s development. They are the captain — the one who sets the course, calls the crew to stations, and ensures the voyage moves toward the destination.
I am the one who teaches them love, discipline, freedom, and truth.
I am the one who models integrity, grace, and grit.
I am the one who says no to nonsense and yes to wisdom and common sense.
Families, like ships, need a steady hand at the helm. They need someone who understands where they are, where they want to go, and how to get there. Without direction, it is easy to get caught in life’s currents — to drift toward wherever the wind pushes, wherever the screen points, wherever the path of least resistance leads.
